Backing up important data is always a smart idea, but a smarter one is to protect the backed up files against malware. Malwarebytes Secure Backup includes everything you would expect from an effective backup utility, but it comes with its own unique features as well. Before it backs up anything, the program will scan your files for malware infections, using the well known utility Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. If the files are clean, they will be heavily encrypted and uploaded to a secure server.

Malwarebytes Secure Backup is free to try for a limited period of time, after which you will have to pay an annual subscription. You can choose one of three subscription plans, based on how much online storage space you want. The software can be used on Windows XP or any later edition, as well as various Android and iOS platforms. Besides installing its core components, which takes less than a minute, you also need to create an online account.

The backup and restore functions, as well as a few advanced options, can be found on separate tabs, on a compact user interface. You can set up local or online backup jobs and run them on the first tab. Local and online backup tasks can be prepared with the aid of two different wizards. If you decide to create an online backup, you can set the wizard to scan your Library folders or specific files. The following steps involve usual configurations, like selecting files and defining a schedule. You can let the software back up your files automatically, every few hours, days, weeks or months, but you can also execute your backup tasks manually.

Local backups are created in a similar manner. The wizard can be set to back up specific data to a default or user-defined folder, once or according to a schedule. Additionally, the software allows you to choose between a full backup and an incremental one. Once you create a new task, you can let the software execute it right away or execute it yourself at a time of your choice.

When it comes to local backups, Malwarebytes Secure Backup works like traditional backup utilities. Online backups work a bit differently. Files of the same type are stored in the same repositories, even if they were backed up separately. The application allows you to search for online backups by their size, keywords and creation dates. In other words, even if the files are mixed together, you can still recover data that was backed up in a specific instance.

Stored data can be accessed on an online portal, from any computer. Besides recovering individual files, it is also possible to share them with other users. To protect other users, the software will not upload files if they are infected with malware.

Pros

The software scans files for malware, before backing them up. Backed up files are encrypted with high-grade algorithms and stored in an online data center. Once uploaded, files can be shared with other users in a safe manner.

Cons

There are no serious issues to mention. Instead of limiting you to simple backup tasks, Malwarebytes Secure Backup provides powerful protection measures for your data and it allows you to share it with trusted people.
